Autopilots

Yo guys,so I wanted to know how I can do following things!

I am almost only working with procedures and it’s fine, but 2 things I want to know here.
1st if I want to make new waypoints myself and set a altitude how does the autopilot automatically fly to these altitudes?

And 2nd almost the same here,so when I am taking off and I have my only Procedure Flight Plan I turn on autopilot and LNAV right? But then it doesn’t automatically fly to the restricted alt like Mentioned before. And when I turn on Vnav it works but only when I am only on cruise.

Hope y’all understood me and can help lmao

1: The autopilot will go to the waypoint, if your descending, it will descend to your selected altitude too as long as VNAV is on. However, if you are climbing, the autopilot won’t climb to the altitude as VNAV can’t climb yet.

Engage VNAV 1 minute prior to descend

When VNAV timer about 1 minute to descend. But if there is ATC u should ask for Descend VIA (your STAR)
