Overnight last night, i flew from Auckland to JFK in the 787-9 Air New Zealand and it was an amazing flight! I wanted to make a trip report about this flight.
As I walked to the gate we could see out the window out plane for today’s flight. This Air New Zealand 787-9 is close to 6 years old and will be our plane today. It’s late morning here in Auckland and the sun is rising in the sky
We went outside and got onto our plane. Our plane wasn’t at a gate so we had to walk outside to our plane. As we walked up the steps the flight attendants greeted us as we entered the plane
I got another window seat and it was perfect. Just behind the wing and almost across from the edge of the wing.
We taxied out to runway 23L and headed off for New York! As we lifted off we said bye to Auckland. Our next 15 and a half hours would be in the clouds!
As we cruise over the Pacific Ocean the sun was setting and I decided to get some rest before we got to the US.
I woke up about 8 to 9 hours later right as we were passing over Baja California. Our first sights of North America were just below us.
We we’re descending now and we were over the state of New York! New York was right below us and JFK was about 60NM to our north. We were almost there. We had been in the air for about 15 hours
Touchdown JFK! It was a very smooth Touchdown. I think the passengers were very pleased with that landing. We had a very quick stop and exited right off the runway. Flight time was close to 15 hours 20 minutes
We taxied for about 7 to 10 minutes before parking at our gate. I decided to grab one more picture before i left the plane.
Now in the terminal I was looking back at the plane. The ground crew was already at work getting the bags off the plane. I took a picture with a beautiful American 777 in the background before I went to the baggage claim to grab my bags. This was an amazing flight and I will be flying Air New Zealand again!
