Good day all,
Just a quick heads up how the ATIS should be used for pilots that want to land at aerodrome X. Try to tune the ATIS before you contact the approach frequency as you want to know the runway in use already before you contact approach for your own planning purposes, Also you don’t want to lose the communications with the approach controller during this phase of the flight because you might be missing some important vectors and or altitude changes.
Yesterday I was controlling approach and I had a pilot who went to the ATIS for 40 seconds while on base so I couldn’t provide him with the final vector until I send him a guard message. Please take this into account as when it gets very busy you might be put back in the line of all arriving aircraft.
