I am now 75mn and ATIS did not seem to me.
Thanks
You may still be too far away. Wait until you’re a little closer and see if it pops up.
I usually pick up the ATIS frequency when I’m 20-30 nm away from the airport. The normal distance to contact the tower frequency. If you pick up approach before you get ATIS just tune into them
Small tip: Click on the airport icon to tune into ATIS further out. You can tune in earlier in the information box when you click on the airport tag than if you do it normally on the bottom left.
@Neeson52 I always forget to do that! I wait until it shows in the comms menu lol :)
Yeah it’s really useful especially when the airport is busy and multiple approach frequencies in use. You can plan your arrival further out 👍
This is a very very good tip, I literally had no idea until I read this.
Thank you for sharing.
So @Matt93 I read in the IF article when you are 80mn from the airport you already got information from ATIS. @TimShan05 I’ve always managed this distance, but today it didn’t show up and luckily the ATC Approach didn’t ask for what ATIS information. Do you know why this happens? When I was approaching I tried to see ATIS and it didn’t show up.
Thanks
When I fly I don’t see the ATIS frequency appear in my ATC comms menu until I’m about 30nm away from the airport. As @Neeson52 said in an earlier comment, you can click on the airport’s icon itself and see what active frequencies there are, but apart from that I just wait until it shows.
As for the ATIS frequency was showing when you checked at 70 odd nm away but no message was showing. The ATIS is mostly automated, but does require the controller to set up the individual frequencies to contact and publish it. Maybe ask the ATC crew at the time what happened there.
hi there was a short time that i disconnected for like a minute that may have been the reason.
Were you controlling the ATIS frequency @SebastianF?
Yes i was :)
Then most probably that was the cause of it then :)
I’m curious, how busy EGLL is right now, I’m coming in with an event of 9 what is the likelihood of getting cleared to land?
@Murilo_Heindrich This might of been the cause :)
it most likely was sorry about the inconvenience
Don’t be sorry to me :) I wasn’t affected by this. @Murilo_Heindrich was the one that made the topic. Things happen don’t worry, have a good day ;)
Oh yeah, you wern’t the one that made the topic, i didn’t even notice hahaha
As you’ve said Heathrow is busy :) They will get you in when there able too, just be patient and follow all the ATC instructions.
No, I know but my question is should we consider diverting cause it’s too busy or will they be able to accommodate, just wondering if it’s too busy to even try asking for approach.
