ATC voice only for yourself

couldn’t find any other topics about this

Currently the voice on ATC can be heavily delayed, which can be annoying on busy approach frequencies where you want to be afk with headphones on to hear any vectors, but you only hear them 2 minutes after they’ve been sent. In audio options there should be a tick box where you only hear your own commands, you see all on the top bar, but this should be useful when you don’t want to have to be constantly staring at your screen when waiting for vectors/on guard.

Not really related to the the request but… 1. On a busy frequency, nobody should be waiting to hear their command to turn/descend as it would mess up the traffic flow. 2. You should not wait for an on guard to contact a frequency, it is only a way to alert aircraft that should be on a frequency; to contact that frequency.

The on guard bit is more just useful in case you do get on guarded but don’t notice as you are afk- also if I’m 50NM away from KMIA and being vectored slowly it is annoying to have to stare at my screen while nothing happens

The problem is that you have to listen to other calls so you know what is happening at the airport. It’s very important to know what else is happening;)

Like what @Aussie_Wombat said, you need to hear the other comms to be alerted about airfield information, aircraft on final etc. ATC would have too many repeating calls otherwise.

I think what he meant is that he is trying to do it realisticly and actually listen for the ATC instructions rather than just watching the text on the screen. One solution would be to just remove the text from everyone’s game, but you could only do that on the expert server or have separate servers.

For the feature request I think it’s a bad idea honestly. If you could only hear your instructions from atc then you would have no idea what is happening around you like if that 787 coming toward you is going to be parking or taxiing to runway XX.

MaxSez; It’s called “Communication Discipline” and “Situational Awareness”, practice it! Just key to your Call Sign. The Text msg unlike voice is routinely not delayed and it’s in your face if your scanning, As for the 40/50 mile call from Approach. I don’t pug in my final destination on my flight Plan until I’m on a long slow descent for Pax comfort about +30 miles out. Then I make the inbound call & revile. If challenged on guard I extend my final leg to an Alternate as far away from the antzee traffic cop as I can get cause he’s already got his finger on the trigger.

(PS: Stay on my Freq is a cocked pistol. Punch out!)

I think it is fun to hear other people speaking. I would not like this idea

“Captain Jack, please follow instructions!” “Captain jack, please expidite!”

In this photo captain jack was not cleared for takeoff. If I could not hear the atc talking to him I could not have figured this out and took this photo

If I see someone responsibly descending, I’m more than willing to wait.

Unfortunately, most don’t think they need to be below FL240 until final intercept. I was being a good cop the other day and not contacting a pilot until he was below FL180.

Trouble is, he was still higher than that on downwind. He finally contacted me on his own, at FL220, 4 nm from the end of the active cone on downwind.

I just wish there was some situational awareness. I’d be more than happy to wait until 25 miles out. But every IF pilot thinks they’re an astronaut.

@Tim_B… I’ll be pleased to see your name in lights when you make it to IFATC. With your knowledge, attitude, maturity and good sense your the perfect candidate. I feel your pain, but you gotta eat carp for now. Hang tough.

(Astronaut LOL, Well said!)

Sorry mate, you should never be doing “Nothing”. Always check ATC, Airport Info, Traffic Flow, Weather, Aircraft info, etc. A pro pilot always finds something to do that is productive.

He already is an IFATC Supervisor and much more…

It’s okay. No offense taken. Thanks for the flattery. :)

Believe it or not, it’s a conscious decision not to do so. Personal preference. I made the decision when I first joined a while ago that I wanted to be known, for good or ill, based on my abilities [or lack thereof, depending on who has to wait in line for approach] rather than being given bonus points for a few letters appended to my name. I don’t begrudge those that choose otherwise, but this is more my style.

MaxSez: I believe it! Bravo! Refreshing, leading by example, pass the word to your stalwarts. A bit of modest goes a long way. Lead, Follow or get out of the way!

1.- So true. 2.- So true as well.

This isn’t a bad idea in theory. But like others have said, listening to others is a major part of flying. Both in Infinite Flight, and in real life. Flying is all about situational awareness. Knowing what is going on and what to expect will make your life a lot easier. :)
