The Visual Approach is an instrument approach which allows an aircraft to proceed visually to an airport as long as they have the airport in sight. Many of your favorite airports have visual approach plates available. In this tutorial episode I’ll show you how to provide a visual approach into Bob Hope Airport!
All controllers are encouraged to be familiar with the Visual Approaches available at the airport they’re servicing. If they’re not familiar with the approaches available or traffic does not allow it controllers can also vector for a downwind, base, or final (straight ins approved) so the pilot gets the airport in sight.
Important Note: A pattern entry command is not required by tower if an aircraft is inbound on the Visual Approach. Simply issue a sequence and clearance if applicable.
