ATC training

Hello. Would appreciate some help practicing for my ATC practical. I’m online on the training server at KNTU. Just fly the pattern, transition etc. thank you in advance. Landing/ Departing 14L/14R.

Hope to be here for another 30-40 minutes.

Hello,

I would recommend you joining ATCMH, there you can do practice sessions with pilots that follow instructions and mock the actual IFATC practical test ! Best of luck

Hey there! Here’s feedback from N21AU (F/A-18):

  • Overall, good work and great situational awareness! It’s clear you have a good understanding of what’s going on and how to position/sequence aircraft. What needs a little bit of work is cleaning up the radio calls, but you are well on your way to being ready!

  • Taxi pre and post flight: No issues

  • 1st Pattern: When I was holding short you cleared me for takeoff without issuing a pattern direction/entry. Be sure to give this to aircraft remaining in the pattern. Good on giving me my sequence after takeoff. You issued me a “cleared for the option” three times. It seemed as though you were giving me a new clearance after each aircraft landed. This is not necessary. One and done is how it should be. If you ever forget if someone is cleared, your flight strip on the right will show the runway in green if the aircraft is cleared to land. You also gave me a second sequence, which is not necessary. You told me that you would call my base turn. Good situational awareness here, as I was going much quicker than the aircraft in front of me. However, a more appropriate call would have been telling me to match speed with the aircraft ahead, as this reduces your workload.

  • Departure from airspace/Transition: No issues, and remember you can issue frequency changed approved as soon as traffic conflict is not an issue

  • 2nd Pattern: No issues, and nice job with the correct pattern entries

Again, nice job mate! Clean up the radio calls and you’ll be set!

sadly I joined in a bit late for the party.
but if you do another one of these, you can surely count me in!

also, I’d like to agree with Sebastian and recommend you to join the ATCMH, they are an amazing team that could help you so much.

as I said, I joined in really late, 5mins before you closed-
still, would you like some feedback?

I absolutely would if you heard any calls and just give feedback from what you saw/ heard.

I plan on being back on tomorrow same time.

Huge THANK YOU for joining.

Send me a ping tomorrow, as I should be able to join!

I was actually gonna send you a message thanking you lol

Thanks for the feedback and i will take it all into account. Sometimes it feels safer to just clear/ re sequence again to make sure it’s done. But next time I’ll try to keep track a bit better. It meant ALOT that you came out and flew the pattern with everyone else. It is impossible to do this in the training server at any of the big airports due to trolls etc. ask me how I know…

Is it best to just let the departing flight request freq chance or issue the freq change depending on how busy it is? THANK YOU again.

Easiest thing to do is give them the frequency change once they are clear of traffic and heading away from your airspace. Also remember, when you click on an aircraft, there will be a list of quick commands on the left side of the radio page that allows you to easily select commands you have previously issued. This means after the first aircraft, you can quickly press that command instead of navigating through the menu for each aircraft.

so here it is:

feedback | PS-BAC

  • transition altitude was correct indeed, followed by the correct pattern entry for 14L

*after landing, I was instructed to turn right when able, followed by a crossing clearance; these two commands could been sent together, as in “when able turn right and cross runway, contact ground(…)” and so on.

I know I didn’t stay there for long, but from what I could see, you’re already pretty capable in what you’re doing!

also feel free to ping me when you’re publishing your next session. :orange_heart:

Nice job today! Feedback from N21AU (F/A-18):

  • Starting off, I would definitely recommend finding an ATC trainer to set up practice sessions for you. While these sessions on your own are still helpful, it can be difficult to get the full experience when there are only 1 or 2 planes in the pattern. When you join an IFATC practice session, they will be able to curate specific scenarios with more aircraft. These scenarios are also massively helpful because you will see more things that you will be tested on, and I am unfortunately not able to give these to you when it is just me flying around.
  • First Departure: Nice job on giving me a pattern entry this time!
  • Second/Third Pattern and Final Inbound Pattern: Overall, only minor issues here. Just remember when you need to give a pattern entry: when an aircraft is inbound or if there is a runway change. When you first cleared me for takeoff you gave me a left pattern. On the second pattern, you switched my runway and gave me a right pattern entry (good job here :+1:). On the third pattern you issued another right pattern entry. Here it would not be needed, as there was no runway change. Lastly, when I called inbound for landing, there was no pattern entry given. However, nice job with sequencing and appropriate use of the “match speed” command.
  • Closing thoughts: You are doing a fine job! Well on your way, just need some radio calls cleaned up. Any practice ATC session will be helpful on your journey, but I still highly recommend getting an IFATC trainer so you can experience custom scenarios you will be tested on. Best of luck, and keep it up!
