Hello! I had a couple questions about making a tracking thread.

  1. I have not reached 500 operations, am I allowed to make a tracking thread?

  2. Do I need to apply to IFATC before I can make a tracking thread?

Not necessary, you can use it for fun, but it’s mostly used for people to come and fly, and then provide feedback in order to help you improve your skills. Operations have no relation with the thread.

Although it’s not mandatory, I personally recommend it. It’s a really fun experience and you get to meet many community members.

Thanks for the answers! I was planning on joining IFATC, but since I haven’t really been controlling a lot before, I’m only at like 85 ops. So I can make a tracking thread now to learn and get my ops up?

Of course. I just hit 2.8k ops and the best tool tbh is opening a very large airport because there’s already a bunch of operations just ready for you.

Nice to hear! You can do a Tracking Thread, yes. Although I personally recommend controlling busy HUBs like KLAX or EGLL to gain operations, and then focus on small calmed airports to practice with more serious pilots the items you will be tested on your IFATC practical test.

Y’all weren’t kidding! I’m up to 199 operations after controlling LA and Oakland center for a little bit and then LA ground for 35 minutes!

The only problem when opening up places like LAX and LHR, especially on TS, is that you rarely learn anything since pilots usually do not listen to your instructions.

My tips on getting good, near ES, traffic is opening up smaller airports and announcing it on your tracking thread. This way, community members can fly in more then the usual trolls you’d receive.

Yeah. Sorry if you saw me getting triggered at an A321 on the runway, I was the MD-11 air tanker. I think I saw you controlling 👀.

Yep, that’s what I plan on doing. I’m just getting my operations up a bit before a make the tracking thread. And to be honest, surprisingly, most of my instructions were listened to lol.

Hmm, I’m not sure, I’ll check the replay lol. I was only controlling ground, and most of the time my attention was focused on the international terminal. It was really busy today!
