ATC Right/Left

When ATC instsructs to “make right traffic”, do I turn to my right or to the tower’s right?

Your own right

When ATC says “Make right traffic runway xx”, it would be in the direction of that runway. For example if the runway was 27L (LHR) and ATC said to make left traffic, you would approach from the south, and vise versa

Hello @Precuriousgrade and welcome to the community!

Whenever ATC instructs you to make right traffic after a go-around or pattern work, You turn to your right, with respect to you. And if it was correct, the airport should be on your right hand side too.

Similarly, when ATC instructs you to “Enter left downwind runway xx”, You can simply check the airport or the runway would be on your left.

We issue directions with respect to pilot so it’s easy for them to interpret and fly.

Hope that helps.

I recommend that you read the whole Getting Started Guide and Flying Guide. They may seem a little lengthy, but reading them will help answer a lot of questions and make your experience as fun as possible.
