ATC connection issues

Hey guys. I’m fairly new here, only recently made a community account and currently have 40 in flight hours. I’ve been having problems with online play for the last several weeks now. Every time I load in the connection problem is slightly different, but always I can not send or receive ATC communications. I have already tried what the official cite says to do, which is basically to disable all connections on your device (turn on/off airplane mode) and reconnect. The first few days I had this problem this did solve the issue. However it has been weeks now that I have been unable to play with ATC. Every time I open the app I try to fix it several times with no success. It will show that my device is connected, and will sometimes even tell me I am connected with ACT, but even in busy airports I can hear absolutely nothing.
I have already tried restarting my device and uninstalling/reinstalling the app. The first 1-2 months I had online it worked fine. It is very frustrating that I am unable to use the subscription I paid for, especially because ATC communications was my favorite feature. Does anyone have a solution to the problem I have not tried?

Are you using a VPN when connecting to multiplayer?

I have a VPN that restricts some suspicious sites and monitors device activity, but I don’t believe it messes with my location or connection. Could it be part of the issue?

Yep, this is probably what’s causing the issue. We’ve noticed a bunch of issues connecting with our servers with VPNs after server / networking updates last week.

One workaround we have found: if you have an option to choose the VPN protocol that your tool uses, we recommend using OpenVPN or Wireguard (this is an option in NordVPN and ExpressVPN for example).

We’re looking into this from our end to see if we can improve this, but right now that’s our only workaround if you have to use the VPN. Normally we’d recommend playing Infinite Flight without a VPN to minimise latency and guarantee the best experience
