ATC ATIS Question

What if the controller’s runway he is using in ATIS is not suitable for you’re aircraft. For example, I’m in a A380 and the ATIS for CDG is using a runway off 8,500ft, it’s not ideal for a big jumbo jet like the a380. Can you request another runway thats not being in use for safety?

You can request a different R/W if it’s on the ATIS for dep/arrivals, if that r/w is not in use than you’ll need to make the one r/w work

I mean 8500ft isn’t too bad for A380, unless your fully loaded 👀

I mean you can definitely stop with plenty of room but the brakes will need to be put in the fridge

Ideally the controllers should consider the aircraft size when issuing permission to taxi. Controllers shouldn’t send cargo/heavy aircraft to short runways made for General aircraft.

Im not taking off, I’m coming into land

LFPG should be able to take the A380, those R/W are in use all the time for landings, I think you’ll be fine.

I mean, If the controller assigns you a short runway, you always have the option to request a runway change.

Good luck.
The landing distance for a max weight A380 at sea level is 7000 feet.

You should be okay, even though CDG is not at sea level (400 feet).

Let me know how it goes - curious to see if it worked

I should be fine. My load is 18%

Made it!
Nice landing (I think - all I had was the white square to look at) .

Also: 9R was active so you could have requested that runway instead of 9L.

Welcome to Paris - have a (enter your time zone here)

In general, though, controllers should understand the limitations and restrictions of each airport in addition to what runways are able to be used by each plane. You can always request a specific runway but if you aren’t granted it, I would just follow the ATC instructions. After the flight was finished, feel free to send a kind message to the controller on the IFC and discuss it their. Not everyone is perfect so it’s great to have those kinds of discussions.

I checked flight radar and a380s do land on 26L/8R and 27R/8L so you are all good. ATIS should, however, have landings for all available runways (excluding intersecting runways because that is a whole other thing)

They land on the outer runways in real life.

I landed on 9L, had plenty of room and did not over run!

So the controller should’ve had both of the 9s and 8s open for landing

Not necessarily. Usually CDG operates with landings on the outer runways (9L/8R) and departures on the inner runways (9R/8L), similar how LAX operates.

A380’s do land on the CDG outer runways irl too 👍
