ATC at every airport using AI

This is just an idea, but imagine having ATC at every airport 24/7. Of course I still want to have real human ATC. So I have the idea that every airport that isn’t staffed by a human. Will be staffed by AI. You can also make some signs if the airport is stuffed by human or by AI. I don’t expect that to come out in one month. But if many people vote for this. It would be cool to have it.

While it doesn’t seem like a bad idea I fear that it couldn’t work because it would put immense pressure on the games systems and servers. This isn’t a bad idea though

Out of the 10s of thousands of airports on Earth, less than 10% of them has ATC. Everything else is either uncontrolled or private

Some pilots already do not follow human ATC instructions. What do you think will happen when it is AI?

I put this forward a while back but the discussion seems people weren’t interested

Yes I relly would like to have this

RFS does this for single player, shouldn’t be too hard

I don’t understand why no one voted for this feature, even though everyone else loves it. I’ll be the first to vote.

We need this…

I agree this is a good idea but roll it out for center frequencies first. Easier training model to start with and will give us something to interact with in cruise. Would also make the approach controllers job much easier if AI helped with spacing.

Not exactly. The AI GPU is just taking in data and making decisions. The output from the GPU that the game needs to receive and relay to you is just ATC instructions.

The only place I could really see this being used is at smaller regional airports. AI like that probably couldnt handle major airports where sometimes there’s 10-15 arrivals and no human staffed ATC. The good thing about the regionals is that its usually a LOT less populated and if one was, it would be for an event (so it would be staffed). ofc this could be a positive add-on but it would take at least a year if not two. one positive thing is that the IFATC group is 100% growing. but i like this idea.

I actually thought of this. I do like the idea for airports that have scheduled flights, but not big enough for ATC to constantly staff it though.

I am in no way a developer or have any idea what I’m talking about when it comes to development/computers, but I imagine it will cause infinite flight to take a lot more to run. It was designed to be a mobile flight simulator, but if this is added it might take up more room or whatever and prevent lesser performing devices to play. This could also be a feature you could toggle on/off. Again, no idea what I’m talking about.

i do really love this idea though.

That’s a really good idea!

4 TOPS can handle video feeds and Lidar on an autonomous vehicle. 100 TOPS can control entire buildings. It’s far more than enough processing power to handle raw data. It doesn’t need to see everything in a 3D space. It just needs your position, vector, and airspeed in the form of data.

No thanks…i like having water to drink…

boycott AI

Tbh I don’t really get the water argument, like you could say the same thing about streaming videos, gaming such as infinite flight etc… aand just pretty much anything online nowadays. If you don’t like the idea because you think AI ATC would be unrealistic or badly put in place in the game, fair enough. But “AI uses water” doesn’t really tell us whether it would be a good feature or not and I don’t think it’s really useful for this thread.

In my opinion, im optimistic about AI ATC, as ofc it wouldn’t act as a replacement for IFATC, but as something that could fill the gaps where there isn’t any coverage. Most airports spend the majority of their time on UNICOM anyways, so having an AI controller that can handle basic clearances and sequencing would be really amazing to have, and better than having no ATC at all. It would make it more exciting even to arrive in small regional airports for example. but yeah, thats my opinion

My argument goes deeper than just water usage but im not here to argue so i left it at that.

AI is ruining society and we need to stop using it…period.

That’s a position on AI as a whole, not on the suggestion being discussed. The question here is whether AI ATC would improve coverage at unstaffed airports and fit well in IF, not whether AI should exist. Those are two very different discussions…
