Can a real life pilot explain this to me so I can use them properly cause I can’t find a good tutorial on how to use them and if this is wrong please correct it.

It’s the other way around from your diagram. Think about it like this:
The direction of the airport in relationship to your aircraft’s position is the orientation of the pattern. So if the airport is to the left of your aircraft, you are doing a left pattern (left downwind, left base, etc.), and vice versa.
E.g. this diagram is indicating a left pattern, since the airport would be to the left when on downwind.

The easiest way to remember it when I was first taught it, was that when you’re on a left downwind, you only do left turns to get to the runway, and vica versa.

real world atc would tell you which traffic pattern you’re doin sim use it based on runway example 24L make left traffic 24R make right traffic
