Appreciating a plane you didn't like

When I first started flying in IF, I flew the 737 and I hated it. The engine and fuselage’s proximity to the ground, the amount it shook and moved during high winds, the need to increase thrust on touchdown…the list goes on. My dislike of the aircraft in IF transferred to real life. But 2 weeks ago, I flew to Montego Bay, Jamaica and back to Newark, NJ USA in a United B738. The flight was smooth and I really enjoyed the takeoff and landing. I gained a big respect for the aircraft to the point that I now fly the B737 in IF.

If any of you have a story about a aircraft that you didnt like but gained respect for and now love please share! Would love to hear!

For me, that would definitely be the Dash. When I first started flying the plane in IF, I had to get help from the community to land the thing. After a lot of practice and hundreds of flights, it is now my ‘go to’ plane.

I echo @david.harper 's words! :)

172 for me. Barely ever touch the thing till recently when I learned the proper speeds to fly it with. I realized the model and physics weren’t as bad as I once thought (although it still need some TLC)

Boeing 717. Used to be not able to flare it properly.

I’ve gotten a bit better, but not that much.

The B737. IT was hard to fly cause of the different flight physics it had from other aircraft. Now im used to it and can fly it properly now. And also its one of my favorite aircraft ;)

For me it was the 744 but now it is an absolute thrill to fly it. It is like the 717 in that you have to be spot on with your approach speed but that challenge has grown on me where I enjoy it.

The f18/a. I used to hate it. No animations, awful cockpit and annoying to land, now I love the plane, mostly, and i was then convinced to purchase the other jets which I now regularly fly!

I’m going to Vaughn College of Aeronautics and Technology in Queens, NY. It’s right next to LaGuardia, and has a tower that shows aircraft taxiing to Rwy 4 and taking off/landing on 4. I visited the college several times and have of course been in the tower multiple times. It’s my favorite part of the college. It has tons of CRJ’s owned by Delta, American etc. I used to not like the CRJ at all, but after researching it and observing it more, I got to like it a lot IRL and in IF. That’s why I supported the CRJ rework so much,

The 747’s and 737’s. The 737 has become my go to plane! Although I can’t manage to land that dash, no matter how hard I try. 😐

Hated the MD-80 until I went on a flight with it.I loved it so much, it’s one of my favorite planes. The IF a plane with me would probably be the Dash-8

Definitely the 172. I hardly ever touched the GA aircraft in IF until now. With my real life PPL flight lessons, it’s so much fun to fly the pattern at Meigs in IF.

Probably the C172, I rarely (if ever) flew that thing because I only knew how to fly jets but now it’s really easy

Plus I can never manage to have a stable approach and landing on a 747 :/

For me it would be the 737-700. I started flying it in IF more and more in the new Southwest livery and it’s grown on me as a model ever since. I used to think the 737-700 was a bit short and ugly, but that also changed when I flew one IRL with SAS back to Heathrow not too long ago.

My approach on the 747 is terrible too I always come in way too fast

I like all airplanes in service today tbh. I really dislike the A330 and 757 in IF, but I really like them IRL, especially the A330.

I hated the 747 series in IF. I would easily get speed violations if I didn’t have the thrust low but at the same time I didn’t want to stall. One FNF event said the 747 was an option for aircraft to fly for the event. I flew the 747-8 and I liked it. I started like the 747 family after that.

Oh - absolutely the Cessna 172 - I just thought it was a complete waste and I lit hated it. But now I’m in flight training with a Foxbat A22 - I really appreciate it!

I remember when I had first bought IF, I didn’t like the F22 that much, it was really unstable and when I got to control It, I got one of my first violations for flying too fast. Later on, I learnt a lot about Flying the F22 from Aerosync VA, and now I really enjoy doing stall tricks. Since then, the F-22 Raptor became one of my favourite aircrafts in IF. Almost every 1-2 days, I’m flying the F22, as it feels great and successful to pilot an aircraft which you weren’t able to control before.

I used to love both of the 737’s, but i’ve kind of grown apart from them. Their physics are so different to the aircraft I fly now. I’ll definitely start flying them again if they’re ever reworked.
