When I use appr on aircrafts such as an, a320,an a321 and a 737, the nose pitches up and the plane may stall because of this. How do I solve this issue?
What altitude are you at when you’re intercepting the GS?
I’m usually at about 3,000 ft
The pitch up when activating APPR (at least for me) is pretty normal. It usually settles after a few seconds or so.
How do I avoid it from stalling?
From my experience using APPR, you’re supposed to control the speed.
So when you are intercepting the localizer, you are pushing the APPR button and the nose pitches up so high that you stall or almost stall, correct?
With these aircraft’s, while using APPR, what is your speed and flap settings?
Are you aligning GPS? I usually set it to auto throttle to 140-50 kts range.
Yes. I either get close to stalling or I do stall
Speed varies, maybe 150 kts. When I disarm appr I then lower the speed
You probably shouldn’t lower the speed as it’s your final landing speed, just a pro tip to make better landing.
I also usually don’t disarm appr.
So your nose pitches up when you disarm? I just want to be clear to help provide a good answer.
Don’t forget to calibrate too. That can be the unlikely root of the problem, also make sure your trim isn’t set too high.
No. When I disarm I have full control. It’s when I arm appr
I think that may be it.
Ohh when you arm it, that’s normal, let it settle and make sure your speed and flaps are good.
Alright. Well as was said above, when you disarm make sure you calibrate your device before disarming. I would try and disarm between the 500 and 1000 callout. If your flaps setting is at 4 and you’re too fast, you can also have this problem. But I’d also be curious to what your flap setting is when you arm APPR.
I’m usually flaps 1 around 190-200kts when arming APPR for intercepting the localizer. Then on my way in adjust my speed and flaps as follows before disconnecting. High speed (and too slow in some cases) and too much flaps can be a big contributor with this.
Hope this information helps and you continue to not have this issue.
