What should I do to avoid this in future?

Just out of curiosity; is there a reason your iPad is running iPadOS 16.3 instead of 17.5.1?
Just happened to me at Dubai when I was told to go around and came all the way from Dallas. Starting to lose my patience with this game.
Flying a long haul like that with an iPad Air 2 is a bit risky unfortunately unless it’s fresh in terms of recently restarted, graphics settings & counters for object/aircraft visibility set appropriately etc.
I did all the usual procedures so I think it’s just the airport in particular that my iPad can’t handle very properly because it seems that every time I fly to Dubai I always experience severe lag and crashes all the time. But I do understand where you’re coming from with my iPad, like it is quite old so it was bound to happen. However, I have also flown to other busy airports and my iPads been fine and everything went smoothly. But It’s just very frustrating flying 13 hours and all the time gone to waste. I definitely need to invest in a new iPad to avoid these problems.
