App frequently crashes during approach to airport

At least 4X in the past month, the app has crashed during my approach to an airport. Sometimes it’s within 5-10 miles of the runway, other times it’s just prior to turning into my final approach. Each time it has happened, though, it has been after a medium- to long-haul flight (eg, 2+ hours). Interestingly, it does not happen during every such flight, as it appears to be random.

After each crash, I try opening the IF app immediately, and each time I have received the error “There was an error on the Infinite Flight servers. Try again shortly (error code 8).” So I click “retry” and when the app finally opens, I can resume the previous flight, but never from where the app crashed-- instead I’m placed back at cruise altitude, with 1-2 hours to go.

Also, after each crash I can open the replay file of the ill-fated flight, but there’s nothing unusual in the replay, no error notices or alterations in the flight pattern-- the replay just ends where the app crashed.

I’m running IF version 24.4.2. The crashes have only happened on my iPad Air (3rd generation) running iOS 18.2. Any help would be appreciated.

Additional info: FPS is set at 30; rendering quality low; 3D object density high; rendering resolution high; texture quality high; anti-aliasing off. Airplane count set to medium.

The iPad Air 3rd Gen is over 5 years old now and probably can’t handle the graphics set to high very well.

Try lowering them to medium/low and see if that helps.

Try deleting some cache or even replays you don’t need while also lowering your graphics. Staying in cockpit view the whole flight may also help since you won’t be downloading much data from your surroundings.
