Hey guys, today I flew from MPTO to SKBO for today, once I reached the airports airspace I was contacted by approach, then I was going to descend down from FL180 to FL140 and they said expedite descent, but there were mountains and I didn’t want to get reported so I followed instructions, then I made a right turn to avoid the mountains and then ATC said to read the ATC rule book,so to those flying if I interfered with your flying I am very sorry, any feedback to help me improve flying helps as well!
Hello, I really suggest to contact whoever was your ATC, because this is a valid reason to disregard an instruction. Maybe you may both be in the wrong, but it would be good to clarify this
Thank you very much!
Also the controller left the server so I don’t know who it was…
Checking your replay should work out, refer to the topic that Walter sent :=)
If there are terrain on there instructions, you can reply unable in this case. He might report you but it’s definitely not your fault. And appeals team will support you.
I’ve been vectored straight into a cliff a couple times, not gonna lie. Though the appeals process for IF is relatively straightforward and fair, no one here would like to go through the appeal process unnecessarily… So I just accepted my fate and crashed.
ATC’s controlling mountainous regions should educate themselves with the terrain prior to controlling such airports. It just seems at odds where the ATC’s main task is to provide safe and expeditious service to those in the air, only to “turn left heading 150°” straight to the side of a mountain .
No complaint though - in the bigger picture and grander scale of things I think the team is doing a great job
Me too actually. World tour leg 1 KLAX to MMMX. These things happen
Firstly “maintain 280kts”.. I replied “unable” as I was just about to dip under the 10000ft speed restriction(kind of worried me as newer pilots may have followed instructions & got a vio)
On approach, first time ever I had to ask to ascend as my given height & direction had me headed into terrain on base to final.
I guess with the areas of Central/South America where the ground above sea level is significantly high, around Columbia especially, it’s likely these factors are overlooked to begin with(unless they know the area I think you need to drag a vector over an area to see the terrain height on ATC).
Plus human factors. I couldn’t do what they do
I think it’s worth noting that in SKBO’s approach airspace, the highest mountain is 13,000 so the pilots apprehension wasn’t really needed. Have a little more faith y’all
