ANZ to fly 787 to Adelaide

over 35,000 passengers visited Adelaide last year (2016) from New Zealand. As numbers begin to rise, Air New Zealand have decided to fly the 787 from October. the airline already fly the a320 to Adelaide a couple times a week.
It is so exciting to have more room when travelling to Adelaide and new Zealand with more seats than the a320.

Great to see ANZ flying into Australia considering Qantas has already got NZ domestic covered with Jetconnect. It seems a little funny flying A320s over that distance.

Love Australia and great to see such a small place getting large aircraft like the dreamliners!

Such a big long-haul-made-for-plane for such a short flight…

Actually it happens more often than you think. Some 787 flights are done on some short routes (e.g Xiamen Air PEK-XMN or Thai Airways’ BKK-SIN) which are definitely shorter compared to AKL-ADL 😉

I know it’s because of higher demand but we shouldn’t use planes that are built for incredibly long flights for short haul flights. Modern day planes are built for incredibly long flights such as London to Sydney (example) not Dubai to Muscat! (Example).

The flight from Adelaide to Auckland is around about 4-5 hours which is medium hall

It all depends on what the airline wants to do with their aircrafts. Emirates does short flights with large aircrafts, because they don’t buy any small aircrafts such as the 737 or a320. That is probably why Flydubai is their !

Something that I don’t agree on is for air New Zealand sending their 777 to the west coast of Australia… its like only 2-3 hours away

what about Canberra Qatar is going to fly there and will probably use a 787-8 because it is the smallest plane they own with enough range to fly to doha though they have talked about making it a stopover between Sydney and doha

actuallyit is about 7 hours from Auckland to perth I think you don’t understand distance it is about 3600 nautical miles or 6500 and to adalaide it is 4-5 hours and the east coast is 2-3 hours away only Sydney, Canberra and Melbourne are under 3 hours from Auckland and if you meant east coast it is because of the demand Australians really like to go to New Zealand but Qantas does operate a 737 on most trans-tasman routes
