Any way to avoid the slow turns onto final?

Gday,

So every time I have a sharp usually right angled turn onto final, whichever plane I’m in will turn way too early then slowly half turn awkwardly until I’m straight, but even then it’s way off centre and I have to manually turn back on path.

(See attached pics)

Any way to avoid this?

Thanks.

You can either manually set the heading (turn LNAV off then just adjust the heading on the autopilot menu) or you can turn off the heading A/P and manually turn onto your final leg. Hopefully this helps.

I do agree the autopilot can be a bit finicky especially on planes such as the TBM-930.

I agree with what @RedWolf says. I was curious what an AI question would get back in terms of irl, in general.

Part of the response:

“Yes, it is quite conceivable that a pilot might need to make an adjustment of 1 to 3 degrees from the LNAV course to ensure proper alignment on final approach. Even with advanced avionics and precise navigation systems, minor adjustments are often necessary due to factors like wind shifts, turbulence, or slight inaccuracies in the navigation data.”

I can’t vouch for the nuances of the response. Anyone else correct this as necessary.

Anyway, I also adjust by hand flying and/or AP heading vectors.

And or course, I rely upon ILS alignments as being more accurate.

I mean, I mostly use ILS and GPS approaches, but for manuals it isn’t that hard to come within an acceptable angle…
