An Unexpected Air Show | Neuburg a.d. Donau, March 30, 2021

Welcome back for another spotting topic!

This time something slightly different, not from Munich but from nearby Neuburg a.d. Donau Air Base, home of some of Germany’s Eurofighters. After an initial trip to Ingolstadt just before, we decided to check out the afternoon training session and arrived just in time for the first takeoff of the double-seater Eurofighter.

The trainer completed one traffic pattern before it was joined by a second aircraft which therefore departed using its afterburners.

After another pattern, the formation was joined by a third aircraft, also departing vertically to join the group.

Since we didn’t expect that much action which came quite close to an airshow it was hard to capture all the action, but some pics even captured two planes in one shot

Several minutes later, a second group of two aircraft departed the base for another mission and therefore using a “standard” departure without the use of afterburners.

After about one and a half hours, the first few aircraft returned to the base.

To mix up the perspectives, we then decided to position ourselves further out from the arrival runway to get the fighters while they were turning from base to final, which worked quite well for this Eurofighter.

After being the first to depart, the trainer was also the last one to arrive back at the base. As you can see from the picture, we apparently weren’t the only spotters today since another one was actually flying on the back seat of this one.

Thanks for visiting this topic! I hope you liked it! See you for the next topic, whenever it might be ;)

Unexpected but still very cool and interesting content! I really have only a very limited knowledge of fighter planes but they definitely are a cool sight to see!

As always thanks for sharing, already looking forward to the next post!

Always a nice experience to catch fighter aircrafts in action, performing aerobatic manoeuvres & flying in formation… thanks for sharing these!
