American Eagle CRJ | Albany - Charlotte | Trip Report

My Grandma's Cookie Recipe

Departure Airport: Albany International Airport (ALB/KALB)
Arrival Airport: Charlotte Douglas International Airport (CLT/KCLT)
Carrier: American Eagle
Aircraft: CRJ-700
Flight Time: 1 hour, 23 minutes
Server: Expert

I got to Albany International 90 minutes ahead of my flight, which left me with more than enough time to grab some Starbucks before my hop down to Charlotte, for the first leg of my journey to Ontario. Albany has a really nice airport, with a great view of the apron while you wait for your flight. As I had my coffee and muffin, I saw my chariot for this 90 minute run to North Carolina pulling in from Washington, D.C.

My seat was in economy, right in front of the wing. I was offered an upgrade to First Class for $299 at check in, but it’s definitely not worth it for this short of a flight, especially on a CRJ. After the captain gave his welcome announcement, we pushed back right on time and began our short taxi out to Runway 10.

We took off to the east and made a slight southbound turn, a few miles from the Massachusetts border. It was a smooth climbout, and we hit our cruising altitude of 32,000 just east of Poughkeepsie. Shortly thereafter, the flight attendants made their way down the cabin with a snack and beverage service. I declined the beverage, but gladly took them up on the offer of Biscoff cookies.

Our route took us right over New York City, affording us views of both JFK and LaGuardia as we chugged along, nice tailwind aiding our journey.

We tracked along the coast of New Jersey, then made a bank inland. Around Atlantic City, I decided to try and connect to the advertised WiFi. Unfortunately, it seemed to not be working this morning.

The smoothness was interrupted by some chop near Washington, D.C. The seatbelt sign was flipped on, but the flight attendants were still up and about the cabin. I caught one of the flight attendant’s attention, and inquired about the WiFi situation. She informed me that this aircraft had been experiencing some ongoing issues with the WiFi connectivity over the last week or so, but that it was going to be looked into by the maintenance team once we landed in Charlotte.

We began our arrival over the rolling farmlands of North Carolina, on track for an early touchdown. This was good, since I only had 45 minutes on the ground in Charlotte before my connection to California, which was unfortunately on the opposite side of the airport from where this flight would park.

After a wide bank over Lake Norman, in the North Charlotte Metro, we were aligned with Runway 18L.

We touched down smoothly, and stopped very quickly thanks to some heavy application of the brakes and reverse thrust.

After a quick taxi, we were parked at the gate. All in all, it was a great flight, apart from the WiFi being out of commission.
