American Airlines warns pilots some Asia flights could be rerouted amid tensions with Russia

I grew up and served in the USAF during the Cold War. I was at RAF Alconbury from 88-91 during my 20 years of service. There was no EU as we know it today, no Euro tunnel, or Euro for that matter. There was a wall in Berlin. We had REFORGER exercises, I went to places like Bardufoss Norway where we were 20 min flight time to Russia where we had propositioned assets ready for deployment. I remember flight Korean Air Flight 007 shot down and scores of other tales.

And now this

Honestly it makes sense. Look at the poor victims of MH17, no one has been held accountable for that. It could happen aging and be covered up in a similar way.

I mean it does make sense and crazy not to, but just sad after all this time we’re back to the days of don’t go there, they may shoot us down even if the co pilot can get some great shots of a MIG escort From the cockpit lol

But Russia isn’t fighting anyone yet. No need to reroute, Russia isn’t just going to shoot down a plane because it’s there. They have to be at war and mistake it for a war plane, like they did in the 80’s

Yeah they thought Korean Air 007 was an RC-135

Still, many airlines are not going to risk it. Tensions between the US and Russia are escalating, with neither side seemgly not looking to descalate. It’s no wonder airlines are getting a bit edgy.
