American Airlines terminates contract with 6 NFL Teams.

American decided to terminate their contract with the teams citing a lack of aircraft for their use. The teams wanted a large plane but American rejected it since they deployed them on long haul. More on it here:

NFL teams can’t justify their own aircraft - they only play 8 away games per season (excluding playoffs), but need to utilise an aircraft that holds around 100 personnel. Difficult situation to be in…

Interestimg that Miami and Phoenix were discontinued as they are Hubs and shoukd easily be able to accomodate the need

It is really odd because the NFL season is the time when US airlines cut back on their long haul flying a bit. They won’t be flying to destinations in Europe that they only fly to seasonally, which means there is more availability for a 767 or similar aircraft.

Wonder if DL and UA can pick up the slack or if we’ll see Atlas pick up a few charter flights.

only 8 away games a season so they only play 16 games in normal season not playoffs. Thats less then half of most European football domestic leagues and that does not include domestic cups and Champions League/Europa League.

Maybe United should take them. The players will be the only passengers they won’t beat up!

DAL charters to the Rangers a lot on their 757’s. Maybe they’ll charter one or two of these.
