American Airlines 787-9 Dallas to Brisbane

This is the second half of my BNA-DFW-BNE journey, from the American South to the Great Southern Land.

On Saturday, October 26th, 2024, American Airlines began its longest-ever non-stop service, between its home base and largest hub at Dallas-Fort Worth and the capital of the Australian state of Queensland, Brisbane. Due to the the flight’s duration averaging around 16 and a half hours, the aircraft American can use on this route without payload restrictions are limited to the 777-300ER, which was previously used on the 16-hour route between Dallas and Hong Kong until its suspension in 2020, and the 787-9, with a lower-density, high-premium configuration. This route’s inaugural service this past Saturday occurred to much fanfare, with the flight being the most-heavily tracked commerical flight in the world, as per Simple Flying.

Boarding at DFW’s Terminal D, which handles all long-haul international flights. Our aircraft today has the new 51J/32W/18Y+/143Y configuration, which has 21 more Flagship Business seats compared to the more common version of this aircraft, yet has 41 fewer seats overall, allowing for more of the payload to be devoted to fuel. Additionally, the new Flagship suites have doors on them, adding an extra degree of privacy for passengers.
