I flew American Airlines’s longest route from LAX and second-longest route overall today with their flagship 777-300ER, from Los Angeles to Sydney, Australia. Sydney joined American’s network in 2015, providing travelers with a second daily flight on a Oneworld airline between the two cities.

Getting boarded at the Tom Bradley International Terminal at night. Sydney has been, since American began service there, the second fiddle for flight length, first being surpassed by DFW-HKG until 2020 (also operated by the 777-300ER) and now DFW-BNE, operated by the 787-9.
Taxiing out for takeoff. Our aircraft this evening has the new “Olympus” configuration, which actually hasn’t entered service yet. The first aircraft to get this seating configuration, with 70 Flagship suites, is currently undergoing retrofit in Hong Kong.
