Well, this is my first-ever long-haul out of Charlotte since…ever, really. Anyways, on to the history. Charlotte was originally the main operating base for local carrier Piedmont Airlines, which at the time it was acquired by USAir was operating Boeing 767-200ERs to London-Gatwick. USAir rebranded as U.S. Airways and developed Charlotte into a major transatlantic hub, a PHL of the South. Like Philadelphia, American inherited and has expanded its international operations from Charlotte. Here’s the flight with the shorter, more numerous member of the AA 777 fleet.
