America West B747-200

Source

Are you tired of me? Well too bad if you are because I’m back with a 3rd America West Livery, this time on the beloved Queen; the 747-200!

America West operated the 747-200 starting in 1989 with the aquisition of 3 ex-KLM aircraft. With these aircraft they applied for flights to australia which was denied by USDOT. Instead they applied and were granted routes and slots for Phoenix-Honolulu-Nagoya. Over the next 5 years, AWE would operate 4 units! These flights suffered from very bad flight loads and utlimately eneded in 1991; the same year they filed for bankruptcy protection.
In 1991 there were plans for the -200’s to be replaced with -400s but the order never happened. After abandoning the Pacific routes, AWE flew the 747 between Phoenix, Las Vegas and New York JFK until being retired in late 1991 - early 1992!

America West’s 747’s offered 18 first class, 20 buisness class and 381 economy, along with 10 restrooms and 5 galleys!

Cheers
