Altitude A/P Malfunction

While flying into JFK I was told to descend to 6000 feet. As I did so, I looked away to pet my dog. I refocus while I hear my callsign and “Please follow instructions”. I notice my altimeter is at 3700. Why did this happen?

My altitude says 8000 because I was trying to ascend quickly but it didn’t work…

This is because you have APPR (Autoland) enganged. Look at the button up to the left :)

Oh my god I can’t believe I didn’t realize that. Man. I feel stupid for making a topic now. Thanks so much for being my pair of eyes, because I clearly don’t have any! This can be closed now:)
