Alitalia Announces Rome To San Francisco

https://www.alitalia.com/it_it/volare-alitalia/news-e-attivita/nuovi-voli/san-francisco.html

Just announced a few hours ago.

Eff 01JUN20 3 weekly
AZ640 FCO0915 - 1315 SFO 772 147
AZ641 SFO1515 - 1215(+1)FCO 772 147

I believe this will be the only other route from San Francisco to Italy, with Air Italy’s Milan flight being the other.

(Sorry @BigBert10, looks like they got another).

Interesting! I love this time of year because so many new routes are added

Wow! A new airline headed to San Francisco!

Really excited for next year now as Alitalia will start flights and Lufthansa will start sending their 748s!

Did they send A380s before?

LH still uses A380 to KSFO

Lufthansa currently flies the A388 to Frankfurt and an A346 to Munich. Soon, they will switch the 2 routes and send an A388 to Munich (flying on this flight in November) as well as an A346 to Frankfurt.

Then, in March 2020 I believe, Lufthansa will begin sending 748s to San Francisco on the Frankfurt route and they’ll switch with the A346.

I’m happy to see that SFO will be taking in another airline. It kinda makes up for losing Icelandair, but it’ll be nice to have Alitalia 772s flying in.

Awesome! I’m just waiting for a Rome-Perth flight so I have another 1-stop option between SFO and PER.
