So, the identifier for this airport (KMER) is affiliated with the former Castle Air Force Base in Atwater, CA. The airfield where the military planes were kept, later became Castle Airport through redevelopment (part of the larger repurposing of the base), after the base closures in the 90’s under the Clinton era. I know the area quite well, and I mention all of that, because at one time (quite recently actually) the IF sim identified KMER as “Castle”, but now shows it as Merced (which is a city six miles south of the base itself). KMER, logistically, is not in the city of Merced. Moreover, there is already an airport in the city of Merced (KMCE), which appears on the map - complete with stalls. I was wondering if there was a logical reason for the change.
Looking in app the airport is correctly named as “Castle”. Nobody has made any changes to this airport from what I can see.
The name you’re seeing is just the city name, which at the moment seems to be defaulting to “Merced” because that field is currently blank in the airport editor. If there’s an issue there, I’m sure it will be fixed when someone eventually edits this airport
Yes, of course, I can see that as well. However, it was listed as Castle previously. So I am a little confused as to why it was changed. It would be like changing the airport of SFO to something more general like Bay Area, but that it is still called SFO by lay people.
