Airport Codes

I’m just wondering why Infinite Flight uses the ICAO codes for airports and not the IATA codes.
Example: The IATA code for London is LHR but in infinite flight they use the ICAO code for it which is EGLL.

Because of Air Nav which is 3 letter. We dont want a messy flight plan. I am pretty sure but I may be wrong.

ICAO is more professional. Pilots and ATC use ICAO, where people like me ( DL Mainline Ramp Agent ) and passengers use IATA.

ICAO (International Civil Aviation Organization) is a subsidiary of the United Nations which looks after international harmonisation of civil aviation regulations.

ICAO codes are used for “official” purposes such as Air Traffic Control. Flight plans use ICAO codes for airports and airline flight identification.

IATA (International Air Transport Association) is a trade association that focusses on making air traffic businesses safe and reliable.

IATA codes are most commonly used for ticketing. When you go to the airport for a flight to Sydney from Los Angeles, you see LAX - SYD on the ticket, not KLAX - YSSY (this may differ due to some company policies etc)

IATA codes are more used for passengers as well in the sense they are much easier understand to people who don’t know much about aviation. For example a ticket to London would normally say London(LHR) or London(LGW) and the 3 letter abriviation is a lot more identifiable and understandable than EGLL or EGKK.

Just a question would anyone like an option in the game where you could change if you wanted the ICAO code or the IATA code

Yes, i agree, Like we we have options that can change the airport codes from IATA to ICAO codes or vice versa. Someone might have create that feature request 😁

I’ll get right on that
