I find it interesting how there was so much unused space for two airlines to start up at the same time and grow at roughly similar paces

Is that a b737 max in their photo, i thought they didn’t have any

I think it’s a B737-800 with split scimitars but it looks like a MAX from the angle it’s in.

I don’t know… the one on the left certainly looks like it

Ah, I’m just seeing the stubbier looking winglets on the left without whatever these are called on the winglets

It does look odd. Maybe a super subtle hint of things to come?

Probably made by AI 🤷

With the cockpit window angles relative to the nose and the warped winglets not even on the b737 ng I’d believe that

I will be doing the Lakeland → San Juan flight for sure!

It seems like they’re following an Allegiant/Ryanair style approach to flying to smaller airports in metro areas. Lakeland is near-ish to Orlando, right?

Don’t think it was ever mentioned here so i’ll start

Frontier expands into the Eastern Caribbean

At the end of April, Frontier announced new flights to the eastern Caribbean. They are as follows:

Route Inaugural Flight Frequency Aircraft
BGI-SJU July 6th 3X Weekly A32N (A21N Aug 5-31)
POS-SJU July 11th 3X Weekly A32N

(POS is not mentioned here though.)

Caribbean Airlines is operating the latter route on an ATR at a time of 2hr 26m, yikes though the plan was to originally fly the route via BGI. That flight will start in November.

Route Inaugural Flight Frequency Aircraft
POS-SJU July 14th 4X Weekly AT76
BGI-SJU November 1st 3X Weekly AT76

Lakeland is in between Orlando and Tampa, closer to Tampa though.

It’s a bit closer to Tampa and yes I have noticed that they are using smaller airports but here in SoFlo, they use all 3 airports and they seem to target places up north to warm places in the south which is why they are flying to FL from Wilmington, New Haven etc… without them needing to go to JFK, LGA, EWR or PHL

Well to be fair in South FL, they use all 3 airports (not even MIA now really, they only had MCO-MIA that was just for June) as there aren’t really any alternative small airports to FLL and PBI. Airports like BCT or OPF don’t have a terminal for a 737.

They do mainly fly to smaller airports (see the announcements today with Lakeland and Concord) but they do certainly have bigger airports, RDU is a base, and they fly to places like ATL.

These airports are definitely capable of 737 operations, I even told my cousins boyfriend that Boca Raton can be a commercial airport kinda like SNA over in California

The airports can fit a 737, but I mean specifically the terminals. I don’t think either airport has a public terminal, let alone one that’s big enough for 737 operations. Unless they do have terminals, I’m not sure.

I don’t think they have them but there is definitely space even for just like 1 or 2 gates
