On March 28, AerCap Leasing Company confirmed the additional purchase of 23 Airbus A320neo and 77 Airbus A321neo aircraft. The deal highlights AerCap’s strategy to meet the long-term needs of its global airline customer group by investing in more popular and fuel-efficient technologies around the world.
According to the agreement, China Eastern Airlines will purchase a total of 101 A320neo series aircraft from Airbus. The total price of the order is about 15.802 billion US dollars, which is calculated according to the median exchange rate of RMB against the US dollar (6.8911 yuan) announced by the People’s Bank of China on the signing date of the agreement (March 25), it is about 108.893 billion yuan. China Eastern Airlines pointed out in the announcement that after several rounds of commercial negotiations, the actual transaction price of this transaction will be significantly lower than the above catalog price, and the procurement conditions are better than the company’s previous similar transactions.
The aircraft models purchased this time include A320neo, A321neo and the high-profile A321XLR. Among them, A321XLR is the first ultra-long-distance model introduced by China Eastern Airlines. Its range capacity can reach up to 8,700 kilometers. It can cover direct routes from China to many second-tier cities in Europe and the United States without stopping. It will effectively fill the operational gap of domestic airlines in this sub-market and provide a new “weason” for China Eastern Airlines to expand its international route network.
101 aircraft are planned to be delivered in batches from 2028 to 2032. According to the specific introduction plan disclosed in the industry, 9 will be delivered in 2028, 19 in 2029, 30 in 2030, 27 in 2031, and 16 in 2032. China Eastern Airlines said that the final aircraft introduction plan will be appropriately adjusted according to the market situation, the company’s capacity planning and its own financial situation.
