Aircraft you didn't know airlines used to/ currently operate

I believe they are air tanker A330’s that also operate occasionally for the RAF.

Thank you for airtanker

And speaking of leased Indigo aircraft, here is their 777-300ER:

I mean before I unblured that I was about to say bro we all know about that

This may sound weird but I would like to thank everyone who has contributed to this topic. It means a lot to me and this has been my only long-going topic. While I haven’t been online a lot recently, it genuinely shocks me that this has been going since April last year! So once again, thank you to everyone who has replied.

Plane type?

The Delta 767-300 (Non-ER)

Source
You may be asking yourself - “what in the world could possibly make this interesting??”. It’s a very valid question, and to answer it takes a very keen eye for detail.

Pictured above is 1/2 delta -300’s this were still in service in 2019 - the year the type was retired. They once operated 28 of these and routes across the globe but by the end of the 2010s these 2 planes were inefficient compared to the 37 -300er due to the lack of winglets. Additionally, they had a very odd and old 2-2-2 first class configuration with 1990s style recliners instead of lie-flat seats and very small tv’s with the most primitive technology of any aircraft in the fleet.

By the end of the aircraft’s operational days, it was only seen on a handfull of heavily travelled routes with the most natorius ones being SLC-ATL-SLC and ATL-JFK-ATL.

You may think this topic is dead, but think again.

In the photo above is a Turkish Airlines de Havilland Canada DHC-7. Turkish Airlines operated a fleet of 3 of these turboprops from 1983-1986. I found this image on a postcard, so I don’t know the exact date, but here is the information I have (from planespotters.net)

Built April 16, 1980

Delivered to ANHSA on April 30, 1980 as HR-AND

hijacked April 28, 1982 over Honduras

given to Aviation Enterprises April 4, 1983, as N234SL

delivered to Turkish Airlines in June 22, 1983 (leased from Schreiner Air Leasing)

returned to Schreiner Air Leasing June 20, 1986 as N234SL

destined for Schreiner Airways as PH-SDP but never taken up

delivered to Henson Airlines on October 14, 1986 as N234SL(operated for The Piedmont Regional Airline)

delivered to Time Air as C-FDNR on June 12, 1988 (leased from Aviation Enterprises)

returned to Aviation Enterprises September 13, 1990

delivered to Paradise Island Airlines February 26, 1991 as N234SL (operated for USAir Express)

delivered to Gulfstream International Airlines on October 20, 1998 as N234SL (operated for Continental Connection)

withdrawn from use and stored at Fort Lauderdale January 2001, where it was eventually scrapped in 2003.

Seat layout:

Y50 (Economy 50 basically)

and my hands are starting to hurt, so I will finish here.

thought i’d post about the Delta L-100s from the 60’s. i didn’t know they existed, might be famous idk.

Operated from 1966-1973 as primarily cargo freighters, deltas L-100s were not really a vital part of the fleet.

This model (seen in photo, N9268R)was built for Delta in 1968, operating cargo and passenger services. It operated with Delta until 1973

In 1973, the aircraft was sold to Saturn Airways.

In 1977, the airframe was the first ever herculeas to reach 30k+ hrs.

The aircraft was eventually scraped in 1999.

What app/website did you use to go this far back in time? I’ve been trying to find out what plane I flew on years ago:joy:

Many hours of looking through family photos archives + blogs, YouTube videos and some luck. Also Flighty app is the best out there and it knows a lot of things right away.

This might seem like something you’ve seen before, but it isn’t. Can you spot the detail that makes this different? :eyes:

I swear DHL used RB211’s…

That’s part of it, but there’s one other detail that sets it apart
