After resuming a flight that has been running in the background on AP+, the aircraft bucks and shakes violently for a few seconds before slowly returning to straight and level flight. This video was from a flight I did today with the A321, but I’ve noticed this phenomenon on every aircraft without fail.
This isn’t an issue of weight, speed, or altitude - this particular event occurred at FL340 at M.79. I had a full load of passengers, but only 20% of fuel remaining.
The winds weren’t dramatic on either end. When I enabled AP+, the winds were maybe 30kts, and if I’m remembering correctly, when I resumed the flight the winds were 42kts. As I mentioned, this isn’t an isolated thing either - it’s occurred every time I use AP+, so I can’t imagine it’s all winds.
Apologies for not having a source but I believe this is normal. The cause for the erratic behavior is because when resuming from the AP+ state, the aircraft is suddenly barged with multiple calculations (from elements that AP+ doesn’t take into consideration—ie. wind) as it returns to the “live” state. So the behavior is pretty much the plane adjusting to those calculations.
I do remember when using flight resume, I experienced behavior similar to this when the flight resumed into more turbulent conditions.
I have a 9th generation iPad, does the same for me. It’s not really a major issue, just happens for a few seconds then it returns back to normal, while also staying at a level flight.
Don’t really think this is an issue with your device, it’s just a thing that happens for everyone.
However one thing I found annoying was the amount of fuel you have after using AP+, once I had to do a visual on the Expert servers because I was way to heavy to use APPR mode, but how I always dump fuel out about 5 minutes before the descent because I know I’ll always have like 5 hours worth of fuel remaining after the fuel dump, not really the best way to handle this issue but works well for me.
