Air Traffic Controlling Q&A Thread

Hey everyone!

Do you have questions about ATC in Infinite Flight? Ask them below! I or another IFATC member will be happy to answer your questions. Once they have been answered, both the question an answer will be posted here for future reference, and for people to see before posting.

If you aren’t comfortable asking a question, you can always send me a PM, or head over to the official IFATC Manual linked here!

Do I clear an aircraft to land if they report full stop in the pattern?

A: If you haven’t cleared the aircraft for the option, you may clear them to land. If you already did, you can just respond with “roger”.

How do I check the size of the biggest plane allowed to operate at the airport?

A: So, you can check the gate sizes on IFATC.org . However, we also mainly take into account taxiway size. If the plane can fit on the given taxiways, then Generally, it’ll be allowed.

You can also use your best judgment when it comes to this.

What do I do if an aircraft request a departure to one direction but departs to another?

A: That’s fine. Just give them a frequency change and move on.

What pattern entry command do I give to an aircraft that is slightly aligned with the approach cone?

A: You can give them an “enter straight in” command. Always give them pattern a entry if you do not have approach. If you have approach, you would only give pattern entry if its a Radar Vector approach and the controller hands them off to you.

Do I have to clear an aircraft for the option every time they do a touch and go?

A: Yes, every pattern requires a clearance.

How do I control patterns at airports with intersecting runways?

A: With intersecting runway patterns, just use a combination of extend upwind and turn base to ensure proper separation of the aircraft.

What does left or right traffic look like in the pattern?

A: If you are on left traffic the airport will always be on your left hand side and you will make left turns when you remain in the pattern, and the same goes for right traffic.

Stay safe!

Do you have any tips on becoming IFATC?

Watch the ATC tutorials and take notes. Then apply and open a tracking thread. That’s all I did and it helped so much along the way.

If somebody is declaring full stop to show that he is stopping to fly a pattern, do you still clear him for the option cause full stop is an option or is it also possible to clear him to land because technically after declaring full stop it’s a normal landing

I really love this!

I have no questions myself, but this is one of those things that are thought of, but is never made.

@PlaneGeek and all experienced IFATC regulars, I think you should merge it to a FAQ/commonly asked questions thread, like in support. It would be a very quick way to help users who want to become IFATC, simply link the ATC training thread, and this!

What command should I give when somebody is Entering the false downwind?

Ok luckily I did that

Just tell them to enter the correct downwind. If they don’t seem to follow, try to allow them what they flying on if it will not interfere with your traffic flow.

And what about the same Szenario but with departure? So if somebody requests departure to the north and departs to the South?

That’s fine. Just give them a frequency change and move on.

What’s the fun thing about IFATC?

Ok I will do that in the future

How do I check the size of the biggest plane allowed to operate at the airport?

Personally, I Ike the thrill of getting to control all around the world with 100s of inbounds at once. The upbeat pace of everything at a main hub really gets the adrenaline running and I find it very entertaining.

Obviously, everyone is different, but that’s just how I feel.

I guess some like flying more some controlling and some (like me) both and becoming IFATC challenges yourself

When do you get your feedback for an completed training session with IFATC? Because I had one earlier today but didn’t receive any so far

Did you have your tracking thread open? Or an official training session held by a trainer?

If it was an official training session, don’t worry. Your trainer is most likely working on compiling the feedback and getting it to you.
