Air New Zealand to start B787-9 flights from NZCH-WSSS

Hello guys I just thought I’d bring up the good news about Air New Zealand who will be starting flights between NZCH-WSSS. This route will be started in December 2019. Why is this a big deal? Well back in 2013 Air New Zealand dropped there Monthly service to Tokyo Narita leaving Christchurch with only one medium range route to Perth between the month of December and February. NZCH already has a route to WSSS by Singapore Airlines done by a 777-200 (soon to be replaced by an A350-900) in the summer months (Now) Singapore Airlines operate two 777-200 and on certain occasions Singapore Cargo operates there B747-400 to deliver Cherry’s.

Sadly probably not enough demand and the runway is a little too short.

Air New Zealand only operates now 2 wide body flights out of Christchurch which has a bigger population and long enough runway already.

Demand is the main issue, the runway has had a 747 land back in the day and an A350 land a few months ago so it should be able to accommodate wide bodies.

Widebodys yes but not full laden. Only trans Tasman/Pacific services would be possible where the A321/20 neo would be preferred to widebodies as Air New Zealand prefer higher frequency with smaller planes to lower frequency bigger planes (in the modern day).

I guess I should be grateful to have A380s, 777 etc flying over my house 🤷🏼‍♂️
