Hello everyone,
Today,I completed a 17-hour 37-minute flight from KJFK to NZAA on the Expert Server.I tried to replicate the real flight as closely as possible using FR24 for reference.Throughout the flight,I observed and learned a lot,and I wanted to share one specific point that caught my attention:At what point (in terms of fuel or weight) should I increase altitude?
During the flight,I was cruising at 30,000 ft and noticed that the real aircraft increased its altitude to 36,000 ft after some time.Curious about this,I opened a topic on the forum asking for clarification.A staff member kindly replied and shared a detailed post they had previously written on the subject. The post explained how altitude adjustments are related to aircraft weight and when it’s ideal to climb to a higher flight level.
I decided to implement these guidelines during my flight, and the results were excellent.Once I reached a specific fuel and weight level,I climbed to 36,000 ft.This not only improved fuel efficiency but also made the flight feel more realistic. This experience reinforced how crucial proper fuel and altitude management is,especially on long-haul routes. For those who frequently fly long distances, these small details can significantly enhance the overall simulation experience.
Another notable part of the flight was the landing phase. As you know,NZAA is a single-runway airport, which can create challenges during busy periods.I encountered significant traffic on approach, and managing the descent with only one runway available was quite demanding for the ATC as well as for the pilots. However, the controllers did an excellent job handling the traffic, and I was able to land smoothly. The view during the approach was absolutely stunning and felt like the perfect reward after such a long flight.Below,I’ll share a picture from my landing hope you enjoy it!
This flight reminded me of how much we continue to learn and grow in this simulation and on this platform. The shared knowledge and expertise within this community are invaluable.I’d like to extend my gratitude to the ATC controllers for their excellent coordination and to the staff member who shared such a detailed post about fuel-altitude management. Thanks to their guidance,I was able to conduct a smoother and more efficient flight.
Have you flown this route before? If you have any tips or methods for fuel and altitude management on long-haul flights,I’d love to hear about them.
Wishing you all happy flying!
Best regards,
Yusuf
