About the Cannes Film Festival:

The Cannes Film Festival is an international film festival held annually in Cannes for twelve days during the second half of May. The festival was originally created to reward the Best Film, Best Director, Best Director, Best Actor, Best Actress, Best Actor, and Best Actress in the International Competition. Other awards, presented by a jury of professionals, artists, and intellectuals, later emerged, such as the Jury Prize and, most importantly, the Palme d’Or, the supreme prize, which replaced the Grand Prix in 1955. The Cannes Film Festival is one of the three major international film festivals, along with the Venice Film Festival and the Berlinale. These three festivals, renowned for their critical prestige, tend to be opposed to the American ones. Over the years, the Cannes Film Festival has established itself as a showcase of film production around the world. Several cinematic trends have been revealed, expressed, and affirmed there.
