The fact he said he aims for the 500ft marks to touch down in this zone (at least for the type rating criteria), I think shows flare technique has a lot of bearing on how one visually interprets the use of the official aiming point markings.
edit: And a special thank you to the OP @EC-444 for this your topic and your question. In trying to help with an answer and considering other’s replies, you made me re-think my own understanding of goals and technique at touch-down. And I’m now practicing new techniques related to this new insight.
