I posted something like this on general but I wanted to see if ATC could have AI controllers and all the airport and real life players can still control the airport then when the player is done controlling the airport will go back to the AI controller.
Its a good ideaā¦ if people actually hated controlling.
Removing the ability for us players to control has many downsidesā¦first of all, its fun to control. Thereās a reason why people apply for IFATC (Or just people volunteering) because its a different experience than flying. Second of all, hubs would go extinct. Hubs usually form when an airport is on the IFATC schedule, which makes them receive ATC service. And with all airports having AI ATC service, All traffic would most likely be spread through airports like EGLL, KLAX and KJFK. Only way to mitigate this is by having the AI only control the airports in the ATC schedule. Third of all, AI can always make some mistakes, even simples ones. If you ask ChatGPT how many Rās are in strawberry, itāll tell you two.(Not saying the same would be on AI ATC, but you get my point.)
I could see this being implemented once people start leaving IFATC and AI advances, but only time will tell.
Really now?
I misread thatā¦
This would be an awesome feature to have. You might be able to use it for solo as well
This is an interesting concept! I would be curious to see how this would be implemented, and how the AI would work. Would it be simple call-and-response? Or would be more adaptive, and able to stuff like run an approach tower?
(Also, just a quick reminder to vote for your own feature request!)
I wish Infinite Flight had a app or system so that staff and developers can test our ideas and such so that they can test to see if they will work
This will leave too many opportunities for pilots to ignore ATC instructions. They already ignore human ATC as it is, so they can easily ignore AI aswel.
Not to mention, the human ATC is what separates Infinite Flight from the rest of the other mobile sims.
That also goes for the human atc on some occasions that they controller was not responding and like I said in my topic that players can still override the AI but when the player is done with controlling that airspace the AI would take back over and this idea is for airports that are not usually active.
I donāt think this request is removing the human element. Rather, itās adding in addition to the human element.
While I like the concept, and it has been brought up before in the past, it would take thousands of hours and a small fortune to get it implemented into the game. While AI, in its current state, is able to learn and adapt, it often times still has to be trained and fine tuned. That takes multiple people and hundreds or thousands of hours of development. I also believe that it would use a lot of computing power that the devices just simply do not have. Plus, as a controller, I feel that it would just be abused. We have a hard enough time getting people to follow ATC instructions as humans. Canāt imagine how bad it would be with an AI controller. Maybe someday it could happen. But I personally would prefer it not to.
I agree 100%. AI ATC removes many aspects of realism. For example, special operations like JFKās canarsie approach, or LGAās parkway approach. Real ATC is one of the reasons why IF is unique. Real ATC is why when arrival into an airport 9 times out of 10 in IF is realistic, thats what we all like.
Yeah i realise that, but like someone pointed out earlier, AI is not ready yet.
Maybe im just old fashioned in that i am still skeptical and nervous about the concept of AI, but its mostly a case of, ive seen how it works on other sims, and it is absolute garbage.
Even MSFSās AI is compleate dog water, and thats about as realistic as you can get.
Additionally, AI likely doesnt have a concept of how āarcade-yā Infinite Flight is, and will try and give instructions that just are not possible within the app.
Letās say if Elon musk was part of the IF staff and with his knowledge of AI he could help develop and train it to work
Yeahhhhhhh no š let him focus on his rockets. I want my mars home. Let him focus on space and keep his weird ideologies away from here š
124thATC would be a good comparisonā¦ It does decent at most common ATC interactions, doesnāt overreach into hard-to-predict edge cases, and has ācancel IFRāā¦
Not trying to say itās inexpensive to code, but not entirely out of scope.
Adding this in controlled airspace as a fallback when no IFATC is nearby would enhance interest in following procedures, and would make live ATC look that much more interesting.
Having AI control a busy airspace would also be quite difficult to develop.
Instead of having it 100% AI for controlling, I root for AI ATC tools instead! That would be game changer. Additionally, AI ATC can be there on airports with minimal traffic, since AI Handling denser traffics will have to be fine tuned.
If not implemented this topic definitely brings us ab opportunity to think on future implementations of AI in the game, great topic!
No Just No
Maybe for solo.
I believe RFS has ai atc if Iām right?
