After almost 9 years of planning, failure, and rebuilding, Canada Jetlines, the newest Canadian airline, will take off in the next few weeks. With a livery that seems like a mix of Sun Country and Air Transat, they will operate an Airbus A320 from Toronto to Calgary for their inaugural flight on September 22, 2022.

You can learn more about the history of this airline, how they got funding, and how they were able to make multiple rebounds in the video below.

It’s really incredible to see this airline finally come alive, and I’m excited to see what their product has to offer on their inaugural, low-cost flight from Toronto to Calgary.

This is going to be very interesting, knowing how overcrowded the Canadian low cost carrier market is…

Not to mention how much of a disaster CYYZ is at the moment!

What’s wrong with CYYZ?

I start with no experience in the economics of airlines.

But the current livery colors immediately reminded me of Easy Jet.

What do I know of Easy Jet other than they had a reality tv show here, imported from the UK?

So by some fate we found ourselves off in Venice boarding an Easy Jet to Berlin. But too many passengers - we couldn’t come anywhere close to all fitting on the plane.

It turned out the pilot was flying to London; we and half the mob climbing the remote ladder were flying to Berlin. After giggles, eye rolls, and some stifled aggression, some of us agreed this would make a good episode for the Easy Jet tv show, if they dared.

It all comes back to Southwest Airlines?: and the idea of bringing in people that would normally be bus passengers rather than airline passengers??

Why jetlines is so complicated, taking so many years, and involving backers from multiple countries?

Something I can’t see?

Great topic, and well presented! (I sincerely mean this. I’m just a bit mystified by the finacial backers and how they see their potential value added. Though separately, Canada needs such services!?)

I was just listening to various sources on this long overdue launch.

It seems to be very much timing advantaged, marked by post covid lockdown. They have a competitive edge in being able to start fresh without the covid slowdown debt accumulated by already existing airlines.

Plus as passenger traffic is coming back, leased asset costs lag the recovery somewhat so have still been at a comparatively depressed level compared to before covid.

Some things are worth waiting for to get an edge. Though they could have never have foreseen it obviously.
