Aerolíneas Argentinas came to be after the merger of four different Argentinian airlines in 1950.
In 1958, Aerolineas inaugurated her Jet Age by purchasing six de Havilland Comet IVs and using them on international routes until the middle of the 60s, when they were replaced by the B707. The B737 arrives in 1969, and in the middle of the 70s, the first B747-200s arrive.
The B747-200 under AR made the first transpolar flight between Buenos Aires/Ezeiza and Auckland (New Zealand) with a refuelling stop at Río Gallegos, the return trip being a direct flight. This was on July 7th of 1980. 14 months later, the airline began regular passenger service on this route. The B747 was also used on several other international routes (Rome, New York, Paris, Frankfurt, Auckland, Madrid, Guayaquil, etc…).
The schedule to Auckland was the following:
AR880 BSAS-Río Gallegos-Auckland.
AR881 Auckland-BSAS.
Aerolíneas operated 10 B747-200s between the beginnings of the 80s (1981) till they were retired from service, the last 200 being retired in 2005.
Why should this livery be added: A classic livery that is much better than the 90s Marsans livery, it would open plenty of vintage routes between Argentina and the world. This livery should be considered in an eventual rework of the B747, with the 200 in mind.
To show my support, I’ll vote for this topic with my only remaining vote.
