Adding Ruway Identifiers to new 3D Airports

A thought for the 3D Airport designers …

Is it alot more work or a performance issue to include or add the Red Runway Identification markings found on the Taxiway/ILS critical/Hold Short areas Runway entrances
Not the vertical upright signs, but the painted markings on the hard surface. This would enhance ground operations and add a great visual detail to the 3D Airports.

During the Airport graphic creation taxiway and other ground markings have to be made anyway would this be a huge additional step ?

Don’t know how or if this is something that should have a vote?

Thank you for your continued work on the Airports

Do you have a photo that can show what you want?

Are you suggesting the markings be previewed on the airport selection screen like we have now with the taxiways? Sincere apologies for my trouble understanding.

Ah nevermind, I see what you mean. 3D airport editing and 2D airport editing right now are two different things. 2D does taxiways and markings, 3D does all the objects and stuff that isn’t flat, so I don’t think they’d be doing those if it was an option. In terms of the 2D software, I don’t think there is an option to add those kinds of markings yet, due to the limitations WED has.

To add those alone, you would need another program to do it. I don’t know of any, but there could be one. I won’t say it’s a performance based issue, but rather a dilemma with convenience and feasiblity.

yes I just found a similar image, thank you
this is exactly what I am referring to
see image. These are not at all airports if that is correct also.

So then I’m to understand that when a new 3D airport is now designed and added to IF the ground markings at that airport are a separate process requiring a different design editing tools or software. The ILS or hold short lines we now have are from where and by whom ?
Interesting. Learn something new everyday !
I thought it might be just part of a graphic suite
🙂

That’s correct.

Hold short lines fall under 2D markings in general 😂. 2D editors do in general:

  • Runways
  • Taxiways
  • Markings
  • Spawns and their names
  • Lighting (apart from PAPIs and runway edges, it includes Taxiways, approach lights, etc)
  • ATC and their frequencies
  • The elevation of the airport
  • And of course ILS if they want to do it, but that’s another process that entails editing JSON files.

Ah very nice I would like that!

I guess you found my inquiry extremely amusing “😂”

Since I have no experience in IF airport designing I found it to be a legitimate suggestion.

Since you appear to be expert , is this feature impossible to do ? If so, then its a waste of time to pursue it and nobody should waste a vote on a dead issue.
Cheers

100% possible, it’s just not an easy process with what we have now unlike something like taxiway lights, which just need to be rendered in some way. It’s more likely that it will be added with something that’ll include several other features, since putting all the effort to at least have a method of doing that one feature is probably a red flag in terms of what gets chosen.

You can pursue all you like, I’ve seen way more ambitious requests in my time, there’s just challenges that come with it like every other feature. Nonetheless, you’ve made a request that is totally valid and there’s no point giving up on a feature if the dev team doesn’t know how many people want a specific thing. I say carry on, I believe in you!

With the recently announced changes to the feature request category, this feature no longer meets the following criteria:

  • 3D airport/object requests are currently not allowed (including airports, ATC facilities, buildings and objects etc.)

Due to this, this feature request has been closed and all votes returned to their users so that they can be used to vote on other features they would like to see in-app. For more information on what is permitted, please visit the About the Features Category.
