It’s always annoyed me how jumbled and long most display names are.
I am proposing that we add one extra field, so could you would enter your Callsign, Display Name and User Information. User information would be put in parenthesis like it is shown in the pictures I provided below.
What it currently is:
Cathay 5 01
Rotation: SB239-IFAE-AF-KLM179, Grade 5, Boeing 717-200, 0knts 0nm 200ft
The display name character limit could be shortened from 20 charecters to 15 characters and the display information could have a limit of 20 characters.
I know a simple solution would be to just make our usernames shorter but I thought this would be a nice addition so we could avoid having to read those long unreadable usernames.
I have to provide more than one picture or else this would get confusing.
I don’t really see why it matters. Since the ATC text to voice uses callsigns it’s not really a problem. Callsigns aren’t very long. Now if ATC read the name instead, it would be a big problem!
Ok I think I confused it by putting the extra info where I did, hold on.
In my first example it would be like the tag the mods have, when they call in it doesn’t say “DeerCrusher (Mod) requesting radar vectors for runway 09R at London Heathrow”.
Because in the “Cathay 5 01” example above your post I can’t tell the difference between his username and the groups he is apart of. Also, mine looks nicer on the eye and it’s easier to read.
The reason why this would be necessary is because Infinite Flight has a 20 characters limit so it’s impossible to make your display name legible, unless you make it shorter of course.
I mean. Most VAs / VOs give us callsigns. Nothing wrong with using their designated callsign. I see no point in adding something longer to a callsign when you can just shorten your name and add it there. Different groups, will attract public output, and different people apart from the VAs or VOs will put that specific tag in their name which will cause even more problems. Say for example, IFAE… They have a strict grade 4 to join rule. Now if people see this everywhere, thats gonna give them the intention to put that in their tag, which will cause more problems and conflicts. Nothing wrong with just adding to your display name.
Sorry for the confusion, I’m not talking adding information to the callsign itself, that’s ridiculous.
