After an amazing week in the City of Kings, it is time to head to the land of coffee, Encanto and @NonStopsAviation- Colombia!!!
We got to the airport at the absolutely ungodly hour of 4:30AM- fortunately, there was a butifarra shop open near our hotel so we had an incredibly early breakfast at 3:30. Check-in was smooth and fast. I have flown with Avianca before, and unfortunately today’s Avianca is a blatant downgrade- they became a ULCC after the pandemic.
There is no recline at all and minimal padding. Nowadays AV has no complimentary food or drink within the Americas so we brought chorizo sarnies along for the ride

Over Ecuador we broke out the sandwiches for lunch. Around now my back began to ache.

Disembarking in Bogota. What has become of the old Avianca, the full-service carrier? It has to be said, it isn’t nice, but Avianca is not entirely fit to be a flag carrier. No complimentary meals and not even complimentary drinks on a 2h 40min flight? Avianca’s economy hard product resembles ULCCs like Frontier but fortunately with a bit more padding.
We have a week in Bogota, and I can’t say we’re looking forward to our next Avianca flight. We will spend our week exploring the history-rich colonial streets, enjoying the vibrant, colourful nightlife in Zona T, tasting the excellent local coffee, and day-tripping to the underground Zipaquirá Salt Cathedral. And of course, we’re dedicating 2 days to nature photography. We are very excited for this leg of the journey, and look forward to sharing it with you!!!
