ACARS is an acronym for Aircraft Communications Addressing and Reporting System. In the real world, this system transmits information between aircraft and ground stations by satellite or towers.
What could the system be capable of?
Well, if implemented to Infinite Flight. The system would have the potential to do many things relating to aircraft tracking. The list is endless but some of the most important things would be:
track all flight events with a detailed flight log;
able to monitor flight and aircraft parameters; (ie landing rate, fuel used, overspeed, lights used, loads)
ability to integrate with Virtual Airline and log Pilot Reports automatically;
the ability to also use the ACARS application individually without being a member of a Virtual Airline;
the ability to communicate with other pilots from your own Virtual Airline and other Virtual Airlines;
How can I get involved?
I've had a couple of discussions with LiveFlight developer and creator @Cameron and if this feature has support from the Virtual Airline Community and the Infinite Flight Community this application may have a future. You can get involved by voting for this thread!
Share your thoughts or any other important details I *may* have missed
If this gives VAs and users the ability to communicate with one another whether itās by chat or voice along with the tracking ability, this could be as great an addition as Global. Has my vote 100%, let me just free one up quickly.
Iām fairly sure that incredibly generic stock photo doesnāt relate to the actual feature request in any way shape or form, and I suggest you remove it to avoid any confusion.
Nevertheless, nice feature request - you have exceptional presentation and have actually explained what it is for people who donāt know. You have my vote!
Would be a super useful tool for all VAās!! It would also help pilots having a report of their flight stats, so they can improve on things they might not be the best at (Approaches and landings etc)
MaxSez: āACARSā. WOW, a wonderful Data Link addition if your in Line Maintenance, Dispatch, a Reginal Manager ect. Donāt believe its inter-Fleet Data Link capability is used much for plane to plane, Pilot to Pilot BS. The RW comm suite in hvy Tin already has a Discrete Corporate wide voice communication HF Channel at hand or a VHF/Guard channel for interplane which is rarely used. Spend the time and money upgrading the present IF Comm Capability with Voice. What Use would ACARS be, its a management tool! IF Pilotā canāt type as a rule LOL what use would it be except to redundantly file a by wire Pilot Sortie Report, but who to! LOL
( I note this Topic was submitted by a VA CEO and I agree ACARS would be a fine administrative tool for VA Management. If they want it let them pay for it or submit a Programming interface Plan . IF is a flight sim not a Book Keeping provider for a free ridding non-subsidiary. Let Them eat cake)
I really like this idea! ACARS has made an appearance in many Air Disasters before, notably Qantas 32. Anyways, I would love to have ACARS in IF but unfortunately I am out of votes :(
