Took off from Kigali International Airport (HRYR) and flew northwest toward the Virunga Volcanoes in DR Congo! 
Virunga volcanic chain has various volcanos and high elevation in overall region.
The first peak I encountered was Mount Nyiragongo, the active volcano famous for its massive crater I could see the hole clearly from the air. Behind it rises Mount Nyamuragira, a flatter, larger volcano, completing this dramatic volcanic landscape.
Nyiragongo’s lava is super fluid and can move crazy fast down the slopes, it really gives you an idea why it’s so dangerous. The crater is huge, about 2 km wide, and sometimes you can even imagine the lava lake churning inside.

From Kigali to the crater, this flight offered me a front-row view of Africa’s fiery giants, a must-fly route for volcanic scenery lovers! 
I used to live in a region with active volcano (Popocatepetl), due to breathing difficulties I experienced caused by the volcanic contamination in the air I had to move to some other place, but seeing smokes and lava on volcano every day was an incredible experience.
