Ability to Make Waypoints Fly-Over

Fly-Over vs. Fly-By Waypoints

Something that I’ve noticed is still missing despite some of the new autopilot adjustments is the ability to select a waypoint as a fly-over vs. a fly-by waypoint. Many procedures around the world require pilots to fly over a waypoint rather than turning before crossing the point. Fly-by waypoints allow the aircraft to start turning before reaching the point for efficient, smooth transitions (which is what we currently have in Infinite Flight), while fly-over waypoints require the aircraft to pass directly over the point before turning, ensuring precision for critical points like missed approaches, and are marked by a circle on charts. The key difference is turn anticipation: fly-by uses it, fly-over does not.

Practical Example

Enter my poorly visualized Google Slides masterpiece! In Infinite Flight all waypoint connections are automatically flown as fly-by turns, which would be indicated on the chart by a magenta line. However, the proper routing requires a fly-over turn, taking a completely different trajectory to what would be drawn in Infinite Flight at the moment.

Adding the ability to select a waypoint as either a fly-over or a fly-by waypoint would increase realism procedures tenfold and allow pilots to better follow published charts. Though not a huge deal at the end of the day, I’d still appreciate if you could spare a vote. :alien_monster:

I’m sure that this feature would make flying more realistic! Voted!

The current way to make it is using coordinates. Not the most convenient way but you can try.

Yes, anything that promotes more realism I’m all for. I can’t vote but I definitely support this!
